Dr. Chun is a professor of decision science at Stephenson Department of Entrepreneurship & Information Systems, E. J. Ourso College of Business, Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. In addition to his role as a senior faculty member, he holds the esteemed Cherie H. Flores Endowed Chair of MBA Studies at LSU. He earned his Ph.D. in management science from Krannert Graduate School of Management at Purdue University in 1990. He taught at Northeastern University in Boston for two years prior to joining the faculty at LSU in 1992. Since then, Dr. Chun has been actively involved in teaching a diverse range of courses at LSU, including managerial statistics, data mining, operations research, business forecasting, and operations management. His research interests lie in the field of probabilistic modeling, focusing on managerial decision problems in areas such as production and operations management, marketing, and finance. He has established himself as a prolific researcher, with a substantial number of research papers published in top-tier journals. Dr. Chun's contributions to the academic community have been recognized through multiple outstanding research paper awards, and he has successfully secured several research grants from both state and federal government sources. Dr. Chun takes immense pride in being a father to two exceptional children who exemplify qualities of politeness, personability, and athleticism. His children attended public schools from kindergarten through 12th grade, and subsequently pursued their medical education in Texas. Dr. Chun's marriage to his college sweetheart has brought him great happiness, and together they have embarked on numerous travel adventures, exploring over 60 foreign countries to date. |

1. Research |
Dr. Chun's research papers have been published in premier journals, including Operations Research, Decision Science, Journal of the Operational Research Society, European Journal of Operational Research,IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, The American Statisticians, IIE Transactions, International Journal of Production Research, Financial Management, Naval Research Logistics, and Journal of Quality Technology, among others. Dr. Chun has been awarded research grants from the state government: $77,508 from Louisiana Educational Quality Support Fund and $44,908 from Board of Regents Support Fund. As a sole principal investigator, he recently secured a $75,700 research grant from the US Air Force for the research project on the survival analysis of military aircrafts in training and combat missions. He has received the best paper award in the MS/OR track at the Decision Sciences Institute (DSI) annual conferences several times. Eventually, he won the 2007's Best Theoretical/Empirical Research Paper award with a cash stipend from the DSI. Recently, his single-authored research paper was honored as one of the three runners-up for The Operational Research Society's 2021 Goodeve Medal. This prestigious award is bestowed annually for the best paper published in Journal of the Operational Research Society. In addition to the DSI, Dr. Chun is an active member of many professional societies, such as the Institute of Operations Research and Management Science (INFORMS), Production and Operations Management Society (POMS), American Marketing Association (AMA), and Association of European Operational Research Societies. |

Dr. Chun is currently serving as Faculty Advisor to the Flores MBA programs at LSU. This year, Dr. Chun is deeply engaged in the development of online courses for the MBA and MSA programs. At the college level, Dr. Chun actively contributes as a member of the MBA curriculum committee. In addition, he has served as the chairman of the Tenure and Promotion Committee and also as the chairman of the Instructional Support and Development Committee. At the university level, Dr. Chun has served on the Graduate Council as well as on the Advisory Council for Centers for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) at LSU. Additionally, he has been invited to join the advisory board of Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), one of the most prestigious research institutions in South Korea. Dr. Chun has served on the editorial review board of Production and Operations Management Journal, contributing to the review and evaluation of scholarly manuscripts. He actively participates as a reviewer for various research journals, providing valuable insights and feedback on submitted manuscripts. As an outside reviewer, he also has evaluated tenure and promotion packages from other institutions in many occasions. |

As a native of South Korea, Dr. Chun embarked on a new chapter in his life when he immigrated to the United States with his newly-wed wife in the summer of 1985. Through unwavering commitment and diligence, he achieved his Master's degree in 1987, followed by the successful completion of his doctoral degree in 1990. Dr. Chun and his family eventually settled down in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, a city renowned for its warm Southern hospitality, picturesque beauty, and delectable Southern cuisine. Dr. Chun's incredible son and daughter have pursued careers as pediatricians and are currently working at the prestigious Texas Medical Center in Houston. Dr. Chun engages in weekly tennis matches (or plays racquetball when weather conditions do not permit) as part of his recreational activities. He also finds great pleasure in listening to classical and jazz music, indulging in gardening, embarking on world travel adventures, and pursuing his passion for photography. Armed with just a backpack and a camera, Dr. Chun has embarked on solo journeys to numerous off-the-beaten-path destinations across the globe. (Please enjoy his travel photos.) Leveraging his expertise in mathematical optimization and financial forecasting, Dr. Chun applies his knowledge to effectively manage his personal stock portfolio. Believe it or not, Dr. Chun has never lost a card game in Las Vegas. As a professor of "decision science," he practices what he preaches, utilizing his expertise to make flawless decisions even in games of chance. |
