☆ Oswiecim, Poland ☆

July 2016

During my stay in Krakow, I embarked on a journey via a local bus to the Auschwitz concentration camp, situated near the Polish city of Oswiecim. This harrowing site stands as the largest of its kind established by the Nazi regime. Despite its relatively short operational period of less than five years, the camp's grim history reveals that approximately 1.1 million people met their tragic end within its confines. The enormity of these atrocities is truly difficult to comprehend, leaving me deeply disturbed by the inhumanity that some individuals could inflict upon others. As I walked through the somber grounds of Auschwitz, the haunting words come to mind, "Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it." This powerful reminder underscores the importance of preserving the memory of such historical horrors to prevent their recurrence.
