☆ Bergen, Norway ☆

April 2022

Our journey continued with a flight from Amsterdam to Bergen, Norway, a city that is nestled amidst a breathtaking landscape of mountains and fjords, including the iconic Sognefjord, the country's longest and deepest fjord. Exploring Bergen led us to the historic harbour district of Bryggen, renowned for its colorful wooden houses lining the old wharf. Once a bustling center of the Hanseatic League's trading empire, Bryggen is steeped in history and charm. To embrace the natural beauty of the region, we ventured up Fløyen Mountain by taking the Fløibanen Funicular. From its summit, we were treated to panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes and the opportunity to explore its network of hiking trails. Bergen also holds the distinction of being the birthplace of Edvard Grieg, the celebrated composer known for masterpieces like Solveig's Song from Peer Gynt Suite No. 2. Grieg's legacy is to Norway what Shakespeare's is to England, a cultural icon of profound influence and inspiration.
