After enduring a tumultuous period marked by a bloody ethnic conflict in the 1990s and nearly a decade under United Nations occupation, Kosovo joyfully declared its independence from Serbia in 2008. The capital of this "newborn" nation is Pristina, where I encountered a statue of former U.S. President Bill Clinton, symbolically welcoming visitors with his outstretched arm. In recognition of his support for Kosovo, Pristina has also named a street in his honor – Bulevardi Bill Klinton. The city's tribute to the former U.S. President serves as a poignant reminder of the international community's role in Kosovo's journey towards independence. |
